Triple M’s Dennis Cometti has questioned the timing of the Matt Priddis retirement, saying West Coast should have waited until the end of the year considering they’re in finals contention.

Cometti said West Coast's decision detracts from their finals push, with the side likely to end round 19 in the top eight if they beat Brisbane.

“I don’t see that happening. I don’t see the inspiration coming from this, in fact I think the contrary would be true, a few people would be disillusioned inside that dressing room," he said on Triple M's pre-game coverage of West Coast/Brisbane.

“It doesn’t make any sense to me that you tackle these issues now.

“Why in heaven’s name do you do that when you’ve got games to win and games to play?”

After the Bulldogs came from seventh to win the flag last year, Cometti suggested there’s no reason why the Eagles can’t have an impact on finals too.

“It’s such a crazy season,” he said.

“I mean, if you can get into the top four, and as we say, (they’ll be) in the eight as a result (of this game) because I don’t think Brisbane are dinkum today."
