Dennis Cometti has said he believes Fremantle's midfield, right now, is the best in the competition.

On the Triple M Footy's pre-game coverage of Fremantle/Carlton, the boys were discussing Fremantle's midfielders in their last gasp win over Richmond last week.

It made Cometti think.

"Is that the best midfield in the competition?" he asked.

"I like Collingwood's a lot, (but) they've won three games to the moment, so it's interesting. But I would say now that Fremantle's (midfield) is perhaps the number one in the comp."

The Dockers boast a midfield of Brownlow Medallist Nat Fyfe, as well as Lachie Neale, Stephen Hill, David Mundy and the recent additions of Michael Walters, Brad Hill, Connor Blakely and Lachie Weller.

It's helped them to a 6-3 start, fifth on the ladder and one game off top spot.

Cometti explained why.

"They're just bigger and stronger, I think," he said.

Andrew Embley singled out Blakely as an impressive player.

"Fremantle at the moment have got some really good, strong bodies inside," he said.

"Connor Blakely's a guy that I really like at the moment because he can play two roles for you: he can go to the best opposition midfielder and shut him down, but also different to maybe a Ryan Crowley where he can actually find a lot of football himself as well."
