North Melbourne or Brisbane have either won or lost the Cam Rayner Cup depending on how you look at these things.

North Melbourne won the game 19.16 (130) to 11.13 (79), with Ben Brown booting seven majors.

But the win kept the Roos off the bottom of the ladder and handed the wooden spoon to Brisbane — their first since 1998.

But the win denied North access to the first pick of the draft, hotly tipped to be Victorian Cam Rayner.

Rayner’s been dubbed ‘the new Dusty’ due to similarities to Dustin Martin.

So you can either look at this as North winning the battle to avoid the wooden spoon, or losing the battle to draft the best kid in the country.

The only thing that’s certain is that both sets of fans will claim to be happy with the outcome.
