Essendon assistant coach James Kelly says that Dons tall forward Joe Daniher is “a fair way off” playing footy again.

Daniher has been battling osteitis pubis and hasn’t played since the Bombers’ round 7 loss to Hawthorn.

Speaking to Triple M Footy ahead of Essendon’s clash with West Coast at Optus Stadium, Kelly said the Bombers aren’t banking on Daniher returning any time soon.

“I think with the injury he’s got, it has to be treated with the utmost respect,” Kelly said.

“We’re just super cautious with him, just filtering him back in… he’s still not travelling great, but he’s still a young player and a really important player to us.”

Kelly also spoke about Essendon’s form, working under John Worsfold, Jake Stringer and more.

The Bombers aren’t missing Daniher tonight — they lead West Coat 6.2 (38) to 0.1 (1) at quarter time in the west.
