Essendon recruit Josh Green will miss at least the next week after injuring his hamstring.

Green felt tightness in his hamstring late in Essendon's round one win over Hawthorn, and was removed from the game.

Scans later revealed he had a low grade hamstring strain.

"Josh Green was sprinting late in the game – he felt tight in his hamstring, came off and we didn’t end up bringing him back on,” Essendon's high performance manager Justin Crow said on essendonfc.com.au.

"We’ve had the hamstring scanned and what he’s got is the lowest grade hamstring strain where the fascia around the outside of the muscle is interrupted."

He said Green will at least miss the return clash against his old side.

“There is no real muscle fibre disruption which is a good thing but the bad news for ‘Greeny’ is he won’t be available against Brisbane," he said.

"Normally with these injuries players miss two games."

Green had 11 disposals on debut for Essendon on Saturday night, after being picked up as a delisted free agent at the end of last year.

He played 81 games and kicked 107 goals for Brisbane from 2011 to 2016.
