The extent of Michael Barlow’s injury has been confirmed, with the Gold Coast midfielder set to miss the rest of the season with a broken leg sustained in the Suns’ loss to Carlton.

Gold Coast football manager Marcus Ashcroft confirmed that it’s the same leg Barlow broke in 2010, although they’re unsure if he’s fractured both bones or just one.

Barlow will go to hospital tonight and have surgery tomorrow.

Barlow broke his lower leg trying to shrug a Bryce Gibbs tackle late in the game, with his ankle buckling underneath him and taking all his weight.

Play had to be stopped for several minutes as a stretcher was called and pain relief adminstered.
