Labor frontbencher Kate Ellis got a bit of a surprise at Adelaide Oval on Friday night, going into labour.

Ellis and husband David Penberthy were forced to ditch the Crows/Cats clash with Ellis going into labour in the first term.

They tried to tough it out, but eventually left during the third quarter.

“Kate was extremely valiant but early in the third quarter we thought it was time to get out of here and go to an actual hospital," Penberthy told The Advertiser.

“It was a pretty crazy night...I was passionately advocating we call him Richard Douglas Penberthy but we decided to go for something more traditional."

Ellis later posted a photo.

"“Nothing like going into labour surrounded by 50,000 of your fellow @Adelaide_FC friends & supporters," she tweeted.

"Welcome to the world Charlie!"

The Crows might have just earned themselves a new fan.
