Perth’s new stadium will honour West Australian sporting legend Dennis Cometti.

Optus Stadium announced today that the media room at the venue will be named the Denis Cometti Media Centre, to honour his decades of service to sport in the state and nationally.

Cometti, who now only broadcasts on Triple M Footy's coverage into Perth, first broadcast footy when he covered a state game between Victoria and WA at Subiaco in 1971, before moving to the ABC to do cricket.

He then moved on to Seven and started covering footy on TV in the 80s.

Cometti also covered Olympics in his time at Seven.

He moved to Channel 9 with the footy rights in the early 2000s before moving back to 7 midway through the decade.

These days the only place you can hear Cometti is on Triple M Footy’s coverage of games in Perth.
