Former Melbourne and Fremantle player Colin Sylvia has died at the age of 32.

Sylvia was in a car accident in Irymple, just outside of Mildura in northwest Victoria.

The collision happened at the intersection of Nineteenth St and Benetook Avenue on Sunday at around 2.20pm, according to police.

Sylvia’s close friend Brent Moloney paid tribute to his former Demons teammate on Instagram overnight.

Sylvia was taken at pick 3 in the 2003 draft and played 157 games for Melbourne between 2004 and 2013.

He moved to Fremantle to rejuvenate his career in the 2013 off-season but could only manage six games there before retiring at the end of 2015.
