Veteran Fremantle defender Michael Johnson has agreed to a new one-year deal with the Dockers.

The 32-year-old came out of contract at the end of this season but will now play on with Fremantle until the end of 2018 at least.

After hamstring and knee injuries restricted him to just 19 games in the previous two years, Johnson rebounded well in 2017 to play every game of the year – the first time he’s done that since 2012.

“I’m stoked to be a part of Fremantle for another year,” Johnson said.

“We’ve got a really young crop of players who have been playing all year, so to be one of the older guys seeing these younger guys coming through while playing some really consistent footy for Fremantle, is a good sign.

“I’m excited to be a part of it and, hopefully, in the years to come the Fremantle Football Club will be one of the powerhouses of the competition.”

Johnson was ranked first for rebound 50s at Fremantle this year and second for marks.

The 2013 All-Australian is sixth all-time for games played at the Dockers (231).

He needs to play 14 games next year to overtake Shane Parker (238) and Luke McPharlin (244) to enter the top four.
