Canberra is hosting a history-making Friday night fixture this weekend for both the city and the Giants.

As GWS take on the Bulldogs in a blockbuster at Manuka Oval, it will be the first time the nation's capital has hosted a Friday night AFL fixture.

Going through the records since 2010, it shows that Melbourne (predictably) dominates the timeslot.

Of all the big cities, Brisbane has been ignored the most on Fridays - hosting just the one game in 2013, equal with Wellington and Hobart.

Here is the breakdown:

Friday Night Games Since 2010, Broken Down By City

Melbourne - 110 games (Docklands 55, MCG 55)
Perth - 18
Adelaide - 14 (Adelaide Oval 8, AAMI Stadium 6)
Sydney - 10 (SCG 8, ANZ Stadium 2)
Geelong - 3
Brisbane - 1
Wellington - 1
Hobart - 1
