Geelong superstar Gary Ablett is targeting a return against GWS next week after a hamstring injury.

Ablett did a training session on Saturday morning where he ran 10 kilometres, and addressed the Cats fans on the big screen at GMHBA Stadium.

"Today was a really important session for me to get through and then I've got a couple of important sessions next week where I need to tick a few boxes," he said.

"I'm confident I can get up for this week (against GWS) if I get through those sessions, if not it will be the week after.

"Everything's going well, the physios have done a fantastic job, hammy's feeling nice and strong doing plenty of strengthening work in the gym and I just can't wait to get back out there."

Ablett injured his hamstring late in the Cats’ loss to West Coast at Optus Stadium in round three.

The Cats play GWS at GMHBA Stadium next Friday night.
