Gary Ablett has suggested he may leave the Suns at the end of the season - even if that means walking away from the game and retiring.

In his interview on The Footy Show, Ablett conceded there were family issues behind his trade request last year, issues that still presided.

He told The Footy Show he was "very happy" to play out the 2017 season and see what happens from there.

This is despite being contracted until the end of 2018.

"This may be my last season," he said.

"I've got some things going on in my life that I'm not going to elaborate on, but they're my number one priority at the moment."

However, Ablett said he is committed to the Suns for 2017.

"I said to the club that I'm super committed to this year and I'm going to give it everything, but I don't know what 2018 holds for me," he said.

"I'll sit down with the club at the end of the year, we'll talk through that and we'll work out what the next step is for me.

"If it does end up being my last (season), I want to make sure that I make the most of it. I want to play finals football - we're only two rounds into the season, there's still another 20 games to go and I'm confident we can get back to playing some good football."
