Gary Ablett has revealed he has "got rid of social media" and any other external distractions in order to help him focus on footy this season.

Ablett responded to a week of criticism with a stellar game, recording 36 disposals and two goals as Gold Coast demolished Hawthorn by 86 points.

He told media on Tuesday he tried to remove any outside distractions after the GWS game a week prior.

"I don’t watch a lot of TV to be honest with you," Ablett said.

"I got rid of social media after the GWS game."

Ablett said the move would help him focus solely on what's happening on the field, rather than off it.

"I don’t want to be looking into things too much. I want to focus on things I can control," he said.

"The biggest thing is when you know … they don’t have all the facts and people have been misinformed — that can be disappointing."

He also reiterated the possibility of staying at Gold Coast beyond 2017, as long as his off-field issues settled.

"If we can work through some of the things that are going on off-field - I don't know what that looks like and it's not something I want to open up about in this type of setting - but if we can work through that, I'm really enjoying myself up here," Ablett said.
