Geelong will take on Greater Western Sydney on Friday night without six of their best players but Gary Ablett and Scott Selwood could return.

Harry Taylor (foot), Daniel Menzel (groin) and Brandan Parfitt (foot) have all been ruled out for the huge clash at Kardinia Park, while Nakia Cockatoo (knee), Cam Guthrie (ankle) and Lachie Henderson (knee) remain long-term prospects.

However, if Ablett trains well on Wednesday he is a strong chance to play his first game since hurting his hamstring against West Coast in round three. Selwood missed last week’s game against Sydney due to concussion.

“The likelihood is Harry Taylor will play football next week,” Geelong coach Chris Scott said.

“Parfitt won’t play this week and the outlook past that is a little grey but our medical staff don’t think it’s serious.

“Menzel had an injection which he had a reaction to and hasn’t been able to train all week so won’t play this week.

“We expect Scott Selwood to play.”

The Giants are facing their own personnel crisis with Jeremy Cameron (toe), Brett Deledio (hamstring), Toby Greene (foot), Josh Kelly (groin), Adam Kennedy (knee), Rory Lobb (knee), Tom Scully (ankle) and Zac Williams (Achilles) all unavailable due to injury.
