Geelong legend Billy Brownless does not believe the Cats can win the grand final this year.

Speaking on Triple M’s Rush Hour on Monday, Billy said Geelong’s performance against Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday effectively ruled them out of premiership calculations.

The Cats ended up scoring an unconvincing 11-point win after trailing the 13th-placed Magpies by 28 at quarter-time.

Geelong will end up finishing the season in second spot if they beat Greater Western Sydney this week, but Billy believes their struggles to play well at the MCG will count against them in September.

“I walked away saying they can’t win the grand final after that,” Billy said.

“The MCG gets them. That big, round ground gets them.

“Collingwood were good early. Six goals to one ... Wow wee, it was terrible.”

James Brayshaw said the Collingwood-Geelong match wasn’t much of a spectacle.

“From the punters who were there, you would be hard-pressed, even with the most rampant Geelong fan, to walk away from that game saying they enjoyed watching that,” JB said.

The Cats have lost three of their last six games at the MCG. Since 2012, their record at the home of football in finals is 2-5.
