Geelong list manager & recruiter Stephen Wells has shed some light on the process currently underway to land favourite son Gary Ablett Jr back to the Cats.

Speaking to Triple M's Damian Barrett on AFL Trade Radio, Wells said that the dealing with the Suns has been civil.

"The Gold Coast have been really good to deal with. They’ve made it really clear from the very start what’s important to them in this deal," Wells said.

"As much as we’d all like to get Gary back to the club - we have our limits as to how far we’re willing to go to get this done."

Barrett asked how far the club was willing to go to secure the dual-Brownlow medallist - and specifically, which names were off the table.

"Mitch Duncan, Nakia Cockatoo and Jake Kolodjashnij who won’t be part of any deal for Gary Ablett to come to Geelong," Wells said.

"They were the three that had been mentioned publicly… but they’re not going to be part of any deal.

"We’re very hopeful that Gary Ablett can end up at Geelong but there’s still a bit of work to be done."
