The Cats have set themselves the goal of repeating their 2016 feats by finishing in the top four next year, according to CEO Brian Cook.

Geelong made the top four in 2016 and reached a home preliminary final before crashing out against Sydney.

And, according to Cook, they want to be there again.

"We’ll aim to finish in the top-four and then take on the challenges from there," Cook told News Corp.

"The expectations are similar to what they have been in the past dozen or so years."

"We’ve got to make sure we hit the finals with momentum, with less injuries and with a bit of form. So our major target from the footy point of view is to make the top four."

Cook suggested the Cats had moved on from their preliminary final defeat, and had reset their aim.

"We had a hiccup (against Sydney), no doubt about that, and I think there was extreme disappointment throughout the organisation, but you come out the other side of that and you can’t dwell on it.

"While we had a good year, it was dissipated a little bit by that Sydney final and we need to get that behind us, learn from it and improve next year, that’s basically it."
