Promising Gold Coast youngster Ben Ainsworth has been given the huge honour of wearing the No.9 jumper which was previously occupied by champion Gary Ablett.

Ablett was traded back to Geelong last month after 110 games, 124 goals, a Brownlow Medal, two AFLPA MVPs, four All-Australians and four best-and-fairests in seven seasons with the Suns.

Ainsworth, who was taken at pick No.4 in last year’s draft, made an encouraging start to his AFL career this year averaging 12 disposals and kicking 14 goals in 13 games, including bags of four and three against North Melbourne and Essendon respectively.

The 19-year-old wore No.27 in his debut season with Gold Coast.

Meanwhile, former Docker Lachie Weller has adopted the No.14 jumper that was previously worn by the delisted Mitch Hallahan and former Crow Harrison Wigg has been given No.26.

Matt Shaw played 102 games in the No.26 guernsey before being delisted this post-season.
