Greater Western Sydney have promoted Tendai Mzungu to their senior list ahead of the start of the premiership season next week.

Mzungu played 102 games for Fremantle and was picked up in this year’s rookie draft by the Giants.

The former Docker is now a good chance to line up in round one against the Crows at Adelaide Oval.

Mzungu got his chance because ruckman Tom Downie was placed on the club’s long-term injury list to deal with mental health issues.

“It was a nice phone call to receive; to be officially on the list and available for selection,” Mzungu said.

“Obviously the circumstances around it aren’t ideal but personally I’m excited.

“I just wanted to come in an earn the respect (of the playing group) and to be acknowledged with a promotion is obviously a sign that I’ve gone some way to doing that.”
