GWS forward Matt de Boer has been rewarded with a two-year contract extension.

After playing 15 games for the Giants this year, De Boer will stay at the club until the end of 2019.

He was picked up with pick 58 in the 2016 AFL draft after playing 138 games for Fremantle across eight seasons.

GWS general manager of football Wayne Campbell told the club's website he was pleased to see the 27-year-old recommit.

“Matt has been an outstanding contributor to our football club since his arrival 12 months ago,” he said.

“He was a valuable player both on and off field in 2017 and he sets an incredibly high standard around the club.

“A consummate professional, the way he prepares and trains leaves us with no doubt he can continue to play a high standard of football for at least another two years.

“Matt was an important leader for us in 2017 and we’re thrilled to have him at the Giants again.”

De Boer said he couldn't wait to get stuck into the next two years.

“My partner Rachael and I have loved the move to Sydney and we’ve been welcomed with open arms at the Giants,” he said.

“I was pleased with my 2017 season but have plenty more to prove in the next few years.

“Being part of such a driven and hard-working group has helped my footy grow and I can’t wait to get back into it and prepare for the 2018 season.”
