GWS star forward Toby Greene will undergo ankle surgery on Thursday after hurting it against Collingwood in the Giants’ losing semi-final two months ago at the MCG.

The club decided to wait and see how the ankle would respond following the injury, but it hasn’t healed as well as they hoped and they have formed the opinion that an operation is now necessary.

The 25-year-old is expected to be back running and participating in full training after the Christmas break.

“It’s unfortunate that Toby has suffered this setback but by making this decision now, we don’t run the risk of him missing any games,” GWS head of athletic performance David Joyce said.

“No doubt once the surgery has been completed, Toby will vigorously attack his rehab.”

Foot and hamstring injuries restricted Greene to just nine games in season 2018.
