Fremantle is investigating claims Harley Bennell was involved in an altercation at a nightclub the night before the club was due to return to training.

Channel 7 published vision, allegedly of Bennell, in a scuffle at a nightclub on Sunday night.

It has been reported Bennell failed to show at training the next day.

Fremantle released a statement on the matter confirming a Dockers player was involved in an incident, but could not comment further.

"The club is aware of a matter involving a player outside a licensed premises in Fremantle on Sunday," the statement read.

"The club is making enquiries and will be in a position to comment when that process is completed."

It is not the first time Bennell has made headlines for his off-field behaviour, also being involved at an incident with a security guard at a nightclub in 2015.

Bennell was dropped by Gold Coast earlier in that year, alongside Trent McKenzie and Brandon Matera, for breaching team standards and was also photographed with a white powder, alleged to be an illicit substance.

Last year, during his second season at Fremantle, Bennell was asked to leave a flight headed to Gold Coast for being intoxicated.

The 25-year-old played two games for Fremantle at the end of 2017, kicking three goals, after playing 81 games for Gold Coast between 2011 and 2015.
