Hard times ahead?

2017 has gotten off to a horror start for Hawthorn.

The Hawks went down in a monster upset to Gold Coast today, losing 23.13 (139) to 7.11 (53).

They now sit 0-3 after losses to Essendon and Adelaide.

Gary Ablett was dominant in the performance, which is the Suns’ biggest win of all time.

Much vaunted recruit Jaeger O’Meara was quiet, picking up only 14 touches.

Things can get much worse for the Hawks if they keep losing though — they traded away both their first and second round draft picks in their efforts to get O'Meara in the off-season.

St Kilda have their first rounder, while Gold Coast have their second.

As it stands, Hawthorn’s first pick in the draft is GWS’s second rounder.

If the Giants win the flag, the Hawks first pick will be 36 - or later after free agency compensation picks are handed out.

Hawthorn play Geelong in their traditional Easter Monday fixture next week.
