Veteran Hawthorn defender Josh Gibson’s day is over in the Hawks’ clash with Gold Coast at the MCG today.

Gibson injured the adductor muscle in his right groin in the third quarter of the match, but initially played through the pain.

However he eventually succumbed to the injury and had to go off the ground for good.

He put on a tracksuit early in the fourth quarter signalling that his day was over.

Gibson’s exit from the game coincided with a Hawthorn resurgence, they’ve come back from a 43-point deficit late in the third term to be within striking distance of the Suns early in the last quarter.

They currently trail Gold Coast 9.7 (61) to 11.14 (80).
