Hawthorn midfielder Kieran Lovell has signed a contract extension.

The 20-year-old, who was out of contract, has signed a new one-year deal, taking him until the end of 2018.

The former number 22 pick has played two games at AFL level, recording 11 and 18 disposals through the midfield.

His 2017 season, though, was hampered by shoulder problems, restricting him to just three VFL games.

Hawthorn recruiting and list manager Graham Wright said he was looking forward to seeing what Lovell could produce in the future.

“Kieran is a promising young midfielder who is tough in close and has a really strong ability to find the footy.

“While he has had a frustrating season in terms of injury, we are really excited to see what he can produce in the brown and gold in years to come.”
