2016 has been an incredibly forgettable season for Brisbane Lions players, staff and fans alike - but there is an interesting trend that has followed them this season.

The Lions are very handy in first quarters.

So far as to say that if the final siren went halfway through the opening term, Brisbane could be sitting with a record of 11-3.

In the majority of games this season, the Lions have either kicked the first goal or established a lead in the first quarter - before inevitably going on to lose by a big margin.

Brisbane Lions' First Quarters In 2016

The Lions managed to kick the first two goals of the game on four separate occasions - against the Western BulldogsSydneyFremantle and Richmond.

They, of course, went on to lose all of these matches.

So unfortunately for Brisbane, despite the fact they almost always manage to get their noses in front early on they never quite manage to get the job done.

Let's hope with a bit more experience into their talented kids that the Lions will start to climb up the ladder soon.
