Western Bulldogs midfielder Mitch Wallis is likely to make his return from a shocking broken leg for Footscray in the VFL this weekend.

The 24-year-old badly broke both bones in his leg against St Kilda in round 18 last year, and subsequently missed the Dogs’ premiership triumph.

The Dogs’ medical services manager Chris Bell said a decision on Wallis’s availability would be taken later in the week.

"Mitch has progressed through a comprehensive rehabilitation program and is in line to be available for selection this week at VFL level," Bell told the Bulldogs website.

"Mitch has excelled through his final stages of rehab and it’s testament to his hard work and dedication."

Footscray take on North Ballarat at VU Whitten Oval on Friday night.
