Irish Carlton pair Ciaran Byrne and Cillian McDaid have both announced their retirements.

After being selected in the 2014 rookie draft, Byrne played 22 games for the Blues across five seasons.

His stint at Princes Park was affected heavily by injury, including a ruptured ACL in 2016.

“This decision hasn’t been made lightly, it’s something that’s been on my mind for a while but ultimately I feel the time is right for me to go back home,” Byrne said.

McDaid spent one season at the Blues as a category B rookie but failed to make his senior debut.
