A wild swing towards the face of Kamdyn McIntosh by Essendon forward Devon Smith looks set to reignite the debate on punching in the AFL.

A brutal punch from Andrew Gaff broke Fremantle youngster Andrew Brayshaw’s jaw in round 20, leading to Damian Barrett saying that the AFL is “partly to blame” for not cracking down on incidental punching during the course of general play.

Bomber Cale Hooker was subsequently not sanctioned for a punch on St Kilda’s Daniel McKenzie last week

Tonigh Smith threw his left fist at McIntosh’s face midway through the first term, missing with a punch that could have caused significant damage if it connected.
