Tough year.

Adelaide veteran Scott Thompson has admitted his motivation has wavered this season, having not represented the Crows at AFL level.

Thompson has played all year in the SANFL, and said at half-time of the Port Adelaide/Brisbane clash it’s been a challenge at times.

“Mentally it is a challenge,” he said.

“Driving to games at SANFL level, which I haven’t experienced for a long time…it certainly tests out your motivation levels, I won’t lie.

“No doubt I’ve had games where I’ve been driving to games and the motivation probably shouldn’t be at the level where it should be at.

“Once the game starts, once I get to the ground and get around the boys, that changes. Once the game starts and I get into it, I’m fine.

“Mentally and motivation wise, it certainly has its challenges.”

Thompson said he’s ready to go if he gets a call-up, after missing most of the pre-season.

“I had a pretty interrupted pre-season,” he said.

“(I) missed a large chunk of that with a few little niggles, but (I’m) on top of all that now. I’m back to match fitness, I’ve strung together a handful of games at SANFL level, and if required I’m ready to go.

“I’m enjoying my footy at the moment, it’s been different, playing with a bunch of young guys, and then playing with guys that come into the squad each week that personally I don’t really know too well.

“But it’s been really good."
