Former Port Adelaide utility Jackson Trengove says he'll "agree to disagree" with the Power's decision not to play him late in the season, believing he "could have played" in the elimination final.

Trengove was dropped late in the season, playing his final game for the year - and Port Adelaide full stop - in the round 20 loss to Adelaide.

He became 2017's first free agent on Friday, signing a three-year deal for the Western Bulldogs.

Port Adelaide went down in extra time to West Coast in their elimination final, and Trengove told Triple M's Rush Hour he could have helped Port Adelaide progress.

"(I'm) not at all (angry)," he said.

"I had the conversation with Ken (Hinkley) probably over the last couple of weeks.

"Still to this day I believe that I could have played in that last game and made a big difference. That's something we'll agree to disagree on, because it wasn't the case."

There's no animosity between Trengove and Port Adelaide, with the 26-year-old admitting there were family reasons behind the move.

"For me, it was about securing my future and going to Melbourne. I've got a little daughter, and it's going to be great to get back to my parents and my partner's parents as well," he told Triple M.

"It's all exciting times, and obviously I think the Bulldogs' future is going to be huge, as well."
