St Kilda talls Jake Carlisle and Josh Bruce have both been badly injured in training.
Carlisle has a punctured lung, while Bruce has a fractured fibula.
Bruce copped the injury after colliding with a teammate in a marking contest at training, and is likely to miss the rest of the season.
Carlisle is more likely to just miss the single week after complications arose in treatment of a rib injury that led to a minor puncture to his lung.
“There is a small risk in treating rib injuries that this type of complication can occur,” Saints General Manager of Football Simon Lethlean told the club’s website.
“We’d love to have them both out there this weekend but the reality is they won’t be, and we will need guys to step up and fill the void.
“We have seen a host of young players take their opportunity over the course of the season, and we need this to continue this week.”
We put together a tribute to retiring Hawks superstar Cyril Rioli.
