Essendon recruit Jake Stringer will miss a month of footy, while defender Patrick Ambrose will likely miss the rest of the season.

Physical performance manager Justin Crow said on Monday night Stringer was looking at four weeks on the sidelines thanks to a calf strain.

The 24-year-old had picked up his form over the past six games, averaging 18.5 disposals a match and kicking 12 goals.

“Stringer has a calf strain and the normal recovery for such an injury has him looking at four weeks on the sidelines,” Crow said.

The news is worse for Patrick Ambrose, with the defender unlikely to play again this year.

“Pat Ambrose has a hamstring strain and the tendon is impacted, but it will not require surgery,”

“Early estimations suggest this is a 10-week injury.”

Damian Barrett believes Hawthorn has the room to land two of free agency's biggest names this year, rather than just one.
