“It's a complete waste of time”

Triple M Footy’s James Brayshaw has passionately called for the AFL to do away with drawn matches.

The former North Melbourne chairman’s plea comes in the wake of St Kilda and Greater Western Sydney sharing the spoils on Saturday in their thrilling clash at Etihad Stadium.

JB described draws as “a complete waste of time” and that, like in the finals, extra time should be introduced for the home-and-away season.

“Get rid of the draw (for) home-and-away,” JB told Triple M’s Rush Hour on Monday.

“We’ve got the most magnificent extra time mechanism we use in the finals, it’s just electric.

“When you’re at a final and you see that, it is pulsating. Why don’t we have it for round five?

“I reckon if you asked the 18 coaches in the comp, they would all say play overtime, give us a chance to win it and if we lose it, we lose it.”

Damian Barrett fully supported JB’s position, but Billy Brownless disagreed.

“I like the draw, I don’t care,” Billy said.

“It doesn’t happen often and it’s in our game and I’m a traditionalist. I like it. Keep it as it is.

“The Giants should have won and then the Saints should have won. It was a good finish.

“Two points each, it can help you towards the end of the year.

“Honestly I don’t mind it.”
