Triple M Footy’s James Brayshaw thinks the stars could be aligning this season for Melbourne to finally break their 54-year premiership drought – the longest active drought in the game.

The Demons are in hot form, having won their last four games by an average of 63 points, to find themselves in third spot on the ladder with a win-loss record of 6-3 and a percentage of 127.0.

Things could start opening up for Melbourne, who are fresh from recording their biggest ever win over Carlton (109 points) and their biggest win since 1993, according to JB.

“Every now and then you can just land in a season that just, for some reason, the stars align,” JB told Triple M’s Rush Hour during The Midweek Rub.

“Everyone has said Melbourne haven’t beaten anyone yet, they’re still third on the ladder, this is a big game against Adelaide but I reckon they get Adelaide at a good time – Adelaide have got lots of blokes out.

“Have a listen to their next six weeks – they play the Dogs twice, Collingwood, Port Adelaide, St Kilda, Fremantle, Geelong.

“So they’ve got two teams in the next seven that are in the eight currently ... so they’ve got a real good patch coming up.

“It just might be a year for Melbourne where things just come together, and often teams win flags on the back of that.”
