James Brayshaw is unsure about Richmond’s finals credentials after they lost to another premiership contender on the weekend.

The Tigers headed into their encounter with Geelong at Simonds Stadium as favourites given the Cats were missing Joel Selwood (ankle) as well as suspended duo Tom Hawkins and Mitch Duncan.

But Geelong defied the odds to score a stirring 14-point win – their 13th in a row against Richmond – to move up to third spot on the ladder and relegate the Tigers to fourth.

Richmond have now lost to fellow top-five sides Adelaide, GWS, Geelong and Sydney – although they did recently beat the Giants too.

“That would be my concern if I was a rusted-on Tiger is when the real heat comes on with the real good teams,” JB told Triple M’s Rush Hour.

“Everyone says they were unlucky to lose against Sydney. Sydney kicked 10 of the last 11 goals of that game. They had a horrible last half of that game against Sydney. I don’t necessarily buy that as an example either.

“So the challenge for the Tigers, for me, is when they meet the very best are they able to genuinely stand up toe-to-toe? I don’t know yet. They might be, but I don’t know.”

Richmond will be aiming for their first finals victory in 16 years when this season’s finals series kicks off in a month’s time.

The Tigers also have the chance to finish in the top four for the first time since 2001.
