Triple M Footy’s James Brayshaw believes Hawthorn’s shallow midfield will be their ‘Achilles heel’ against Melbourne in Friday night’s blockbuster semi-final at the MCG.

The thing that JB loves the most about Melbourne’s midfield is that it is “very potent and deep” and he thinks the Demons should start favourites against the Hawks as a result.

“We’ve got (Jack) Viney back in there, who’s an inside tackling machine, Clayton Oliver is amazing, you’ve now got (Dom) Tyson, you’ve now got (James) Harmes, you’ve now got Nate Jones,” JB told Triple M’s Rush Hour on Monday.

“Angus Brayshaw might be in the best nick of all of them ... and he’s the most dangerous, if you like, of the type because he’s inside and outside – he’s now getting it on the outside and really damagingly going forward.

“And Max Gawn is the best ruckman in the comp so they are a potent group of players and (Hawthorn coach Alastair) Clarkson’s issue this week is going to be, I think, Hawthorn’s Achilles heel – their midfield is nowhere near as deep.

“If (Jaeger) O’Meara and (Tom) Mitchell don’t absolutely dominate – they dominated anyway against Richmond and still got beaten.”
