Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott is going in for ankle surgery that will keep him from full training until 2018.

Elliott rocked up to training with soreness in his left ankle today, and a scan confirmed the need for surgery.

Collingwood’s director of football Geoff Walsh told the club’s website that Elliott needed more than just rest to get back to fitness.

“The injury was one Jamie played with late this year,” Walsh said.

“The recommendation post-season was that with a spell from the rigours of playing and training the ankle would heal.

“Unfortunately the healing process has been slower than expected and surgery is now appropriate.

“We’re expecting to have Jamie back into the full training program by late January.”

Elliott managed 17 games in 2017, after missing all of 2016 due to a back injury.
