Port Adelaide midfielder Jared Polec is in doubt for round one after injuring his hamstring.

Polec limped from training last week with a hamstring tear, with the club expecting him to miss four to five weeks of action.

It will see him miss the pre-season competition and put him in a race against time to be fit for round one.

"Jared Polec injured his hamstring at training in the lead up to the intraclub trial, suffering a muscle tear when receiving contact in a drill," Port Adelaide wrote on their website.

"He’ll be sidelined for up to five weeks, with the view to play a Magpies trial game to make a case for selection in Round 1."

The prognosis on teammate Matthew Broadbent is worse, though, with Port Adelaide yet to put a time frame on his return from a serious ankle problem.

Broadbent underwent two bouts of surgery in the pre-season - first in October and then again last week - after being diagnosed with ankle syndesmosis.

Robbie Gray (adductor) and Steven Motlop (groin) will be fit for the club's first JLT series clash, with Chad Wingard (hamstring), Lindsay Thomas (hamstring) and Todd Marshall (calf) all a chance to feature.
