Sydney veteran Jarrad McVeigh has signed a one-year contract extension with the Swans.

The 33-year-old quelled speculation about his future by putting pen to paper to stay a Swan until at least the end of the 2019 season — his 17th at AFL level.

Sydney and McVeigh had been publicly at odds over his future, with the Swans originally planning for the 318-gamer to go into coaching at the end of the season while McVeigh wanted to play on.

The extension puts those questions to bed.

“Jarrad has clearly been a highly valued member of our team for a long time now and it’s great to have him sign on for another season,” Sydney Head of Football Tom Harley said on the club’s website.

“Jarrad’s been exceptional for us again this year, he’s an outstanding leader and for him to continue for another season is a great result for all.

“We look forward to seeing Jarrad continue to do what he does best during our upcoming finals campaign and for the 2019 season.”

Jay Clark says Carlton are “in the box seat” to get Mitch McGovern.
