Jay Clark has suggested North Melbourne star Todd Goldstein may be the one who makes way if the Roos trade for Josh Kelly.

Clark cited North's loss to GWS yesterday, where youngster Braydon Preuss was handed the no.1 ruck duties, as the reason.

"There's an issue at North Melbourne, intriguing in regards to their rucks," he said on the Sunday Rub.

"We saw yesterday down in Tassie that Braydon Preuss was used as the number one ruckman...Todd Goldstein's been arguably one of the premier ruckmen in the competition recent years, but Braydon Preuss, the former car washer, the former labourer, was used as the main man in there against (Shane) Mumford, and he shoved Mumford around physically like we possibly haven't seen.

"It's an unusual move from 'Scotty' (Brad Scott), but I think it was the right one."

Clark suggested, if Preuss continues his strong form, it may mean Goldstein could become trade bait in the race to secure Josh Kelly.

"For me, it throws up an interesting question about who is the main man there (at North), and beyond this season, who might be expendable?" he said.

"If Preuss becomes the main man at North, does a club like GWS go for Goldstein?

"The background for this is Josh Kelly's been offered a nine-year, $9 million deal by North Melbourne...does North then dangle the Todd Goldstein carrot to GWS?"
