Triple M Footy’s Jay Clark says that GWS could be willing to trade Dylan Shiel at the end of this year.
Speaking on his show Dead Set Legends with St Kilda legend Joey Montagna, Jay-Z said that the Giants may look to cash in on Shiel before he hits free agency next year.
“The whispers around club land is that GWS’s Dylan Shiel is very much open to a move back home to Victoria,” Jay said.
“He’s a free agent next year, but GWS could be smart by trading him this year and potentially getting, say, a top three pick, such as Carlton’s first pick, because Dylan Shiel would be perfect in that Carlton midfield.”
Carlton would receive another No. 1 pick if it finishes last.
Experts have strongly encouraged the Blues to trade the top selection for some ready-made top-line midfield talent.
Paul Roos has been a big proponent of the idea, and Joey said the move is a “no-brainer” on Dead Set Legends today.
Joey says Shiel would be a perfect addition to the young Carlton midfield and has exposed form, compared to the unknown element of the draft.
“Even if you’ve got the number one pick, you’re no certainty to get a super player in the draft,” Joey said.
“Dylan Shiel, you know what you’re gonna get — a bona fide, A-grade midfielder who’s going to be a gun.
“I think you’ve gotta take the exposed form, you’ve gotta go with what you know and see as opposed to speculating on these kids that are really 18 years old.”
