Melbourne defender Jayden Hunt is fighting a bizarre ban from the AFL, which has outlawed a head band he had planned to wear on game day.
Hunt has sported a thin, black head band this season, much like Marcus Bontempelli and Nat Fyfe have done.
But Hunt revealed a blue, red and white head band at training - inspired by one Terry Wallace wore for Footscray in the 1980s - which he wanted to wear on Monday night against Richmond, according to a Herald Sun report.
The AFL has refused, saying all head bands are required to be a single colour.
Hunt told News Corp he wanted to "bring a bit of flair back to the game like it used to have".
“I got in contact with a machinist who makes these kind of things. All they had to do was find a bit of red and blue material and put elastic through it,” he said.
He had his fingers crossed the AFL would change the rule.
There's also a practical reason behind the bigger head band.
“The thicker band also holds my hair in place a lot better than the thin ones,” he said.
