Sydney coach John Longmire has given Alastair Clarkson a whack after the Hawks coach said that Swans players were “getting away with blue murder” from the umpires on Friday night.

The Swans knocked off Hawthorn 12.6 (79) to 10.11 (71) on Friday night, and Clarkson was frustrated with what he considered illegal blocking tactics from Sydney’s players.

“Sydney block better than any other team in the competition in their back end for (Dane) Rampe and (Heath) Grundy,” Clarkson said.

“One minute later, that ball goes into the top of the goalsquare (to) Rampe, Grundy and Roughead — no block paid.

“Why? Top of the goalsquare — I’m not going to pay that free kick. Those swings and roundabouts can affect the margin of the game some times, and we didn’t get them.

“They’re very sophisticated with the way, but at different stages they’re getting away with blue murder too.”

Longmire appeared on The Sunday Rub today and gave Clarkson a whack for the comments.

He maintains that his players don’t do anything illegal, and listed several incidents where Hawthorn players could be considered to be doing similar things.
