John Worsfold has signed a new deal to remain at Essendon.

It will tie Worsfold to the club for another two years, taking his contract until the end of the 2020 season.

He told the club's website he was "really excited" to be a prat of what this group was trying to achieve.

“I’m really excited to re-commit to the club and head into the next three years with a clear vision of what we want to achieve together,” Worsfold said.

“I’d also like to thank the board, executive, and in particular the coaching group for their continued support and hard work.

“We have a playing group which has established a really clear vision, a strong culture and elite standards. We believe this group of players is going to play a lot of football together, and hopefully win a lot of finals moving forward.

“We know there is a lot of hard work ahead of us if we want to achieve success, but we’re excited and ready for the challenge of taking our game to the next level.”

Chief executive Xavier Campbell praised Worsfold, calling him the "right man" to lead the club forward.

“We are pleased to re-sign John as senior coach of the club for a further two years,” Campbell said.

“John has been a great addition to our club through what has been a unique and challenging period. He has brought an enormous amount of stability, and has shown wonderful resilience and commitment to see Essendon emerge in a better place.

“We feel the progress the team has made under John’s leadership, both culturally and on the playing field is extremely positive, and we believe he is the right man to take us forward."
