Collingwood midfielder Jordan de Goey has starred on his return to footy, helping the Pies to a nail-biting two-point win over Coburg.

De Goey racked up 26 disposals and kicked three goals in a best on ground performance.

He kicked two of those goals in the first quarter, helping the Pies skip out to a 26-point lead at quarter.

His impact on the scoreboard was crucial in a low-scoring game, with the Magpies winning 9.10 (64) to 9.8 (62).

It marked his first game back from an off-field controversy, where he broke his hand in a bar fight and lied to the club about how it happened.

This week is the first of three in which he will be suspended from Collingwood's AFL side.

"It was good, I went through unscathed which was nice," he told Channel 7.

"I think it's definitely a part of repaying the faith...it's been obviously a difficult time for me so I'm just really enjoying it, getting back out there.

"I want to finish the year well, obviously (it's been) a disappointing start and it's just going to be up to be now to do everything I can to get back in the team, and whatever they need me to do, I'll do.

"I'm looking forward to it."
