Josh Caddy admitted he was a little bit "lost for words" after Richmond stormed into a preliminary final over Geelong on Friday night.

Caddy featured in Richmond's first finals win in 16 years with 17 disposals and two goals against his former club.

He told Triple M's Neroli Meadows after the game that he was "rapt".

“It’s no secret that it’s been a while for this club to have some finals success, and yeah, we’re rapt. It’s massive,” he said.

“We’re not quite where we want to be just yet, but it’s great.”

Caddy did feel for his former club after the win, who leaves them with a do-or-die semi final against Sydney or Essendon.

"A little bit of me feels for them, because I’ve been there with them before, and it’s a shocking feeling," he said.

"But I’m rapt."

The 24-year-old wasn't short of emotion, particularly concerning fellow midfielder Dustin Martin, knowing how much the win means for the club.

“It’s been a while for this club in finals, and there’s been a lot of pressure on guys like Dustin and Trent (Cotchin) and Jack (Riewoldt) and 'Rancey' (Alex Rance), and the list goes on, and they were all unbelievable tonight, and Dustin led the charge there," he told Triple M.

“Yeah, a little bit (emotional)! Not a tear just yet, but I am a little bit lost for words when it comes to talking about Dustin, that’s for sure, because he’s pretty unbelievable."
