Carlton veteran Kade Simpson says he hopes to play on next season, and expects to discuss the possibility of a new contract after the season ends.

The 285-game veteran is out of contract at the end of the season, after signing a one-year extension in September last year.

He wants to continue playing, saying his manager caught up with the club this week.

"I think my manager actually caught up with 'SOS' this week, so I'm sure it'll take place," he said on the Sunday Footy Show.

"(We'll) probably wait until the end of the year. But yeah, fingers crossed."

He said he hopes to play on, and that all discussions so far have pointed to that happening.

"I hope so (that I can play on). All talks to begin with are going that way at the moment," he said.

It would open the door for Simpson to play 300 games, becoming just the fourth player to notch up the milestone for the Blues.

Simpson has kept up his impressive form this season, averaging 23.8 disposals and 6.8 marks a game, including 25 disposals and eight marks in this weekend's win over Hawthorn.

The 33-year-old has not missed a game this season.
