That's ambitious....

AFL legend and master spruiker Kevin Sheedy has made the bold claim that the annual Country Game between Essendon and Geelong will eventually draw crowds of nearly 90,000.

Sheedy, who is largely credited for staple matches such as the annual Anzac Day and Dreamtime at the ‘G matches, was instrumental in getting the Country Game off the ground in 2016.

This year will mark the third instalment of the match and given it drew modest crowds of 42,723 and 57,172 in 2016 and 2017 respectively, Sheedy’s prediction seems ambitious to say the least.

In fact the biggest ever crowd between the Bombers and Cats outside the finals was 87,653 back in 1989 – the only ever time the two sides drew an attendance in excess of 80,000.

“We think we’ll get somewhere near 90 (thousand fans) in the next few years,” Sheedy said.

“Eventually you won’t be able to get a ticket to the game, like Anzac Day.”

Well, we guess only time will tell!
